If you own a computer then you’ve probably heard of blogging. The majority of computer owners have at one time or another visited blogs for news and information, tried their hand at writing a blog or currently run one or more blogs around the Internet. With so many blogs floating around the World Wide Web, it is hard to gain a large enough audience to be considered one of the top ranking blogs on the Internet. However, there are a few things that you can implement when working on your blog that will improve its chances of becoming a top ranking blog.

1. Pick a unique topic. Anyone can start a blog and most pick general topics such as entertainment, politics, music or reading. By picking a unique topic, you’ll give yourself an edge against the competing blogs. So if you enjoy talking about food, consider devoting a blog to foods mixed with chocolates. Alternatively, if you enjoy reading, pick a genre such as mysteries, classical literature or children’s books. Visitors to blogs want to read something they can’t find elsewhere and that is where your unique, narrowed down content will come in.

2. Pick a topic you are passionate about. When you are passionate about something, it will come through in your writing and visitors will want to come back for more. Readers of blogs can tell if you don’t really care about the topic you are writing about and will move elsewhere.

3. Market your blog. To gain an audience you have to find an audience. Some visitors will find the blog by chance but the majority of the visitors to blogs need to be brought in by some other means. Comments on forums that are devoted to your topic, commenting on other blogs and even guest blog posts are great ways to draw attention to your blog and bring in potential visitors.
